Chimney sweeping is now a modern and clean process which involves using specialist equipment, testing and of course the all-important cleaning process.
Getting your chimney swept with us will achieve what we stand for: Ensure you, your family and your home is safe.
If you have an open fire, wood burning or multi fuel stove, Aga/Rayburn or an inglenook fire they all need regular sweeping. The frequency of sweeping depends on the fuel used:
- SMOKELESS FUEL – At least once a year
- WOOD – Quarterly when in use
- BITUMINOUS COAL –Twice a year when in use
- OIL – Once a year
- GAS -Once a year
What to expect
The whole process takes approximately an hour to complete thoroughly and will involve the following steps:
1) Inspection
With every sweep your flue/chimney and your stove will first be inspected to make an initial assessment of the state of the fire and flue/chimney and to determine the equipment needed to sweep the chimney thoroughly and safely.
2) Preparation & Sweep
The area will then be covered with soot cloths and taped up, to contain the soot as it falls from the chimney. At Torbay Sweeps we pride ourselves on our cleanliness and strive to ensure that all the soot stays behind the soot cloths, from where it can be vacuumed and removed.
3) Post-Sweep Checks
Following the sweep, your flue and stove will once again be checked to make sure that there are no defects, which could affect your safety or the effectiveness of your fire.
Included is our price we will check your fire alarms and carbon monoxide alarm to ensure you, your family and home is safe.
Finally, we carry out a smoke test and ventilation check to ensure that there is a good draw up the flue.
4) Certification
Once the whole process is completed, we will write out your certificate for you to keep.
